Exercise 1: Tongue Twister Practice

(Exercises republished from VoiceOverVoiceActor.com/Take-Action)

To help improve your diction, lightly grip a pencil (horizontally) between your teeth, so that you are forced to really work your tongue to create the sounds.

Practice speaking out loud the following 3 tongue twisters, clearly enunciating each word:

A thin little boy picked six thick thistle sticks.
Sidney Shelly flies through thick fog.
This thatched roof is thick.

After saying them each several times, remove the pencil and try saying them again. Listen to how much the clarity of your speech has improved.

Hi, it's Casey's Mom. I tried it but my pen was bigger than a normal pencil. I think I'll do better without the pen. I'll keep practicing for my debut. Have a great weekend.
  • Hehehe! It's supposed to be hard. You should sound CRAZY!! But it also helps train you to speak clearer (from what I understand).

My mom is awesome, isn't she? :)

most definitely your mom is awesome, or as I like to say (after I've practiced the tonguetwisters thoroughly) momsome! ;) t
  • yeah, but luckily once you try it with the pen/pencil & remove the writing device - you sound oh-so-crisp and clean :)
  • Yikes! That first one is HARD!!!
